on 01 November 2020 in Food & Drink

Weipa may be a small town, but it definitely packs a punch when it comes to serving up some of the best meals in the nation.

With a fair few solid eateries in town, we’ve made sure to include breakfast and brunch options for those who need a hearty meal to kickstart the day, lunch options for a good midday feast and dinner options to help by satisfactorily rounding up your day.

The Sport’s Bar at the Albatross Bay Resort

Starting the list with a bang, if you want to do things right in Weipa, a dine in at The Sport’s Bar at the Albatross Bay Resort is an absolute must.

An easy, laid back styled venue, The Sport’s Bar welcomes many locals and visitors alike. Offering Aussie pub fare that sets a high standard for the rest of the nation, you’ll be impressed with first class service, generous portions and a whole load of mouthwatering food that will surely satisfy your belly.

Some of the favourites include wild caught local barramundi served with salad and fries, prawn linguine, spaghetti carbonara and pizzas that will have you dreaming of Italy, grass fed beef burgers grilled to perfection, and more. Oh, and if you’re feeling a little sinful, indulge in their unique twist of dessert pizza including awesome flavours like banoffee and Nutella and strawberry.

Seating is flexible with inside or outside dining right by the waterfront. Families will be glad to know that there’s a kids playground to keep the little ones busy while you take a break and relax in the local scene.

The Sport’s Bar at the Albatross Bay Resort is open for lunch and dinner.

Zest Coffee in the Weipa Heritage Shopping Centre

A small cafe found inside the Weipa Heritage Shopping Centre, it opens up early for breakfast and brunch. The coffee here is great for those looking for their kick of caffeine to start their day. Meals are tasty and of good portion with breakfast favourites, including the Benedict special comprising bacon, eggs and homemade hollandaise sauce.

Barramunchies at the Weipa Caravan Park and Camp Grounds

Offering a relaxed atmosphere that is casual and open, Barramunchies is nestled by the edge of the water inside the Weipa Caravan Park. You do not have to be a patron of the Caravan Park to dine here.

Given its location, the eatery is always busy and packed full of families and couples at night. The cheeseburgers are delicious, but the real treat is in fresh seafood, including salt and pepper calamari, squid and barramundi.

Barramunchies overlooks the bay too, offering beautiful sunset views in the evenings.

Bowls Club Restaurant at the Weipa Bowls Club

A local club, pub environment with pokies and sports playing, the Bowls Club Restaurant serves typical club food with generous portions. Some of the patron favourites include the seafood pizza, chicken parmigiana, steaks, garlic herb bread and apple crumble pizza.

Beers are cheap and the customer service is friendly and a delight to have around as company for your meal. The Bowls Club Restaurant makes it a point to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and is efficient even on busy days – which is a great plus especially during times of uncertainty.

The Kitchen Table Café at Weipa Community Care

A wonderful selection of homemade food is served up at the Kitchen Table Cafe at the Weipa Community Care Centre. Having been established for over 30 years, you can expect a very warm welcome, followed by delicious coffee and local delights.

A meal here goes beyond the food as the community hub serves as an invaluable source of local information for the community and travellers alike. Everyone is welcomed here, and a pop by the Opportunity Shop after a delicious meal would be a great way to help the local community while treating yourself to some goodies.

The cafe is open during lunch time from Monday to Thursday and you can buy homemade biscuits and cakes from Monday to Friday.
